Launched in April 2006, CALIPSO (Cloud-Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observations) has been taking unique measurements of the vertical profile of clouds and aerosols*, and studying their effect on this planet's climate, on weather and on air quality.





The SMOS (Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity) Earth observation satellite has been successfully launched by a Rockot launcher from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in Russia.
